Majel Roddenberry RIP"Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and the only actor to have a role in all incarnations of the franchise, has died, the Associated Press reported. She was 76."

Not only did Majel star in the original Star Trek series as first an unnamed officer and then given the name Nurse Christine Chapel in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, but she also was Deanna Troi's mother, Lwaxana in Next Gen and was better known as the computer voice in every Star Trek spinoff.

She is also the computer voice in the upcoming Star Trek reboot film made by J.J. Abrams, in which he has managed to single-handedly kill the franchise.

Douglas Engelbart"The humble computer mouse celebrates its 40th anniversary today. On 9 December 1968 hi-tech visionary Douglas Engelbart first used one to demonstrate novel ways of working with computers.

The first mouse that Dr Engelbart used in the demo at the Fall Joint Computer Conference (FJCC) was made of wood and had one button.

Much of the technology shown off in the demo inspired the creation of the hardware and software now widely used."
