{mosimage}"BRISBANE internet users will miss out on Australia's fastest consumers broadband service.

Telstra yesterday switched on the upgraded BigPond HFC cable network that will make download speeds of up to 30 megabits per second (Mbps) available to 1.85 million homes and businesses but only in Sydney and Melbourne.

BigPond group managing director Justin Milne said there were no plans to give customers outside of the two capital cities access even though 950,000 customers use the network in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Telco analyst Paul Budde said Telstra had a history of only doing business in markets where it faced losing money."
